INFORMATION ON THE USE OF COOKIES

1 What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that the websites visited by the user send to their terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored and sent back to the same websites the next time the same user visits them. When browsing a website, the user may also receive cookies on their terminal, which are sent by different websites or web servers (so-called “third parties”) and which may contain some elements (such as images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) of the website they are visiting. Cookies, which are usually present in very large numbers in users' browsers and sometimes also have the characteristic of lasting for a very long time, are used for various purposes: to authenticate the computer, to monitor the session, to store information on certain configurations of users accessing the server, to choose the language in which they obtain information, to store the shopping cart, etc.

2 What are the main types of cookies?

In this regard, and for the purposes of provision no. 229/2014 of the Privacy Guarantor, two macro-categories are identified: “technical” cookies and “profiling” cookies.

    1. Technical cookies. Technical cookies are those used exclusively to “carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service” (see art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Privacy Code). They are not used for any other purpose and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which allow normal navigation and use of the website (e.g. to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas): Our website uses non-persistent technical cookies, which are used exclusively to improve the browsing experience and allow faster access to the website; analytical cookies, which are assimilated to technical cookies when they are used directly by the website operator to collect information in aggregate form on the number of users and their visit to the website; functional cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service offered to him/her. The user's prior consent is not required for the installation of such cookies.
    2. Profiling cookies. Profiling cookies are used to create user profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the Internet. Due to the particular intrusion that such devices can have on the privacy of users, European and Italian legislation provides that the user must be adequately informed of their use and therefore give their valid consent. They are mentioned in Article 122 of the Privacy Code, which states that “the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or user, or access to information already stored, is authorized only on condition that the contractor or user has given his consent, after having been informed in a simplified manner”. The website uses profiling cookies for which the user's consent is required. On the first visit to the website, a banner is displayed with brief information and the form for consenting to the use of this type of cookie. Users can express their consent by clicking on the “Accept” button on the banner or by changing their preferences.

Session cookies and persistent cookies.

Session cookies, which are also used by our website, contain information that is used in your current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Nothing is stored on your computer beyond the time you use the website.

Persistent cookies are used to store information that is used between visits to the website or for technical purposes and to improve website navigation. This information allows websites to recognize that you are a known user or visitor and adapt accordingly. Persistent” cookies have a duration that is set by the website and can range from a few minutes to two years. Our website only uses this type of cookie to enable faster and easier access at a later date.

First-party and third-party cookies

It should be noted that cookies are installed on the user's terminal equipment by different entities, depending on whether it is the same operator of the website that the user is visiting (so-called “first-party”) or another website that installs cookies through the first-party (so-called “third-party”). First-party cookies are created by the website that created them and are readable by it. Third-party cookies, on the other hand, are created by domains outside the website and can be read by them, and their data is stored by the third-party provider. This website uses both first-party and third-party cookies.

For first-party cookies of a technical nature, no consent is required, only this notice.

For more information about user-generated advertising through third-party cookies, you can visit the third-party websites at the links below.
